 A
FAMILY FARM
Quarry Ridge
is a family owned and operated alpaca farm. Chief cook and
bottle washer is Faith. A former teacher, she has now changed
jobs, managing the farm and doing the majority of the grunt
work. Food for kisses and the alpacas usually don't talk
back.
Herb is a school administrator by day, farm hand by night
and most weekends. Shown here with his friend Abercrombie.
Our oldest daughter, Kiki, is the alpaca tamer. Although
she helps with the chores when she visits, her favorite
passtime is spoiling the alpacas, teaching them to eat carrots
and other treats out of her hand. Our other daughter, Rachel,
is also involved with the farm, although presently on a
long distance basis, since she is a Peace Corps volunteer
serving in Burkina Faso. We e-mail her photos of the new arrivals
and alpaca antics.

 WHY
ALPACAS?
We
have raised livestock for
20 years, from horses to hens. And then we met our first
alpacas and there was no turning back.
The combination of our love for animals and fiber (Faith
is a spinner and knitter), a home business, a smart investment
and excellent tax benefits just seemed logical.
So we bought 2 bred females and built our herd from there.

OUR
HERD
Our
small herd has been carefully selected from farms across
the country. We are constantly researching and choosing
top bloodlines in both our females and herd sires. As
with most breeders, we strive for correct conformation and fine fiber, especially in black, grey and brown.
But our focus is also on temperament, breeding for manageable
and friendly alpacas. Our
numbers are small enough to allow for daily handling and
personal care, but large enough to offer a variety of
colors and bloodlines.
One of our goals is to involve the community in our farm
life and we often host 4H groups, Fiber Workshops, and
school groups.

 NEW
FACILITY
We have moved to our new facility in Salem, New York, on the Southern Vermont border. Forty-two magnificent acres offer spectacular views of the Green Mountains, beautiful woods with hiking trails, and 12 acres of grass for the alpacas. In addition to the main barn, we have built a smaller barn for the males and 3rd barn for visiting females. And a house for ourselves!
We have been busy! But we always have time for farm visits. Please call ahead to make sure we are not at the Salem Hardware Store!
